The main manuscript and a completed Authorship Statement are required documents. The main text includes the title, authors' names and contributions, affiliations, corresponding-author details, ORCID identifiers, abstract, manuscript text and acknowledgements.
Provide the article title, full author names, affiliations, corresponding-author details and each author's declared contribution. Enter complete author information and metadata in the submission form.
Include an abstract in the main text and provide ORCID identifiers for the authors in the author information and submission metadata.
The main text of the manuscript should be organized into the following sections:
Introduction: Provide the background and rationale for the study, clearly state the research problem, objectives, and/or hypotheses, and explain the significance of the research. The literature review should be focused and relevant rather than exhaustive.
Materials and Methods: Describe the study design, participants, materials and measures, procedures, and ethical considerations in sufficient detail to allow the study to be replicated. Where applicable, information on ethical approval and informed consent should be provided. The Statistical Analysis subsection should describe the statistical methods used, their appropriateness in relation to the study objectives and hypotheses, the statistical software, and the significance level applied.
Results: Present the findings clearly, logically, and objectively. Report relevant descriptive and inferential statistics, effect sizes, and confidence intervals where appropriate. Use SI units and standard metric units throughout. Avoid interpreting or discussing the findings in this section.
Discussion: Interpret the main findings in relation to the research objectives and existing literature. Emphasize the novel and important aspects of the study, discuss their practical and/or theoretical implications, and address the study’s limitations.
Conclusions: Clearly state the main conclusions arising from the study. Conclusions should be directly supported by the results and should not introduce new findings.
Number all tables and figures consecutively and cite them in the main text in the order in which they appear.
Tables should have concise, descriptive headings and must not duplicate information presented in the text. Tables must be submitted in an editable format, preferably as Microsoft Word (.docx) or Microsoft Excel (.xlsx) files. Tables embedded as images or screenshots are not acceptable.
Figures should be clear and of sufficient quality for publication, with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi. Figures should be submitted in one of the following accepted formats: JPG/JPEG, PNG, or TIFF. Charts and graphs should also be provided in an editable format whenever possible (e.g., Excel .xlsx or Word .docx), in addition to the final graphical version if required.
Previously published tables, figures, or other copyrighted material must include an appropriate acknowledgement of the original source. Authors are responsible for obtaining written permission from the copyright holder where required and for providing evidence of such permission upon request.
References must be numbered consecutively in the order cited. Include DOI identifiers where available. References follow the US National Library of Medicine format and requires references in non-English languages to retain the original title with an English translation in square brackets.
All listed authors must approve the submission and declare their individual contributions. Authors must disclose sources of funding and any financial, institutional, private or corporate interests that could constitute a conflict of interest.
Research involving human participants must report appropriate ethics approval and informed consent and follow the Declaration of Helsinki. Patient anonymity must be protected. Animal studies must comply with applicable institutional and national requirements.
The main manuscript must not contain author names, affiliations, acknowledgements or other information that identifies the authors. Author details, ORCID identifiers, funding information and conflict-of-interest declarations are entered separately in the submission system.
Editors first assess manuscripts for scope, policy and technical compliance. Suitable submissions are sent to independent experts. Physical Activity Review uses confidential double-blind review, so authors and reviewers are anonymous to one another. The available recommendations are acceptance, minor revision, major revision or rejection.
The journal Physical Activity Review operates under an open-access publishing model. All original scientific content published in the journal is freely available on the journal's website (www.physactiv.eu), allowing readers to access, read, and use published articles for personal and research purposes without charge.
Manuscript submission and the peer-review process are entirely free of charge. No fees are charged at the submission or review stages. Following a positive peer-review outcome and acceptance of the manuscript for publication, authors are required to pay an article processing charge (APC) of EUR 1,595 (gross).
Authors whose first language is not English may request professional assistance with the preparation or language editing of their manuscripts. The fee for this service is EUR 285. This service is optional and is charged separately from the article processing charge.
Payments can be made using the available payment methods indicated by the journal. Where payment is made by bank transfer, all bank transfer fees and other transaction costs must be covered by the author, ensuring that the full invoiced amount is received by the recipient.
